The history of Kinetic Affect…
- April, 2006 - Gabriel Giron and Kirk Latimer meet as competitors in poetry slam bout
- May, 2006 - Gabriel and Kirk fill two of the five slots for National Poetry Slam competition and begin work together
- June, 2006 - Going against the norm of competing individually, Gabriel and Kirk create duo-voice pieces that stun audiences in Austin, Texas
- August, 2006 - The duo is soon widely recognized as one of the best duo poetry performers in the nation
- November, 2006 - Kirk and Gabriel begin preparing new poetry pieces for next year’s competition
- February, 2007 - After creating numerous poetry pieces, Kirk and Gabriel decide to name themselves Kinetic Affect and begin work on creating their own show
- February, 2007 - Gabriel and Kirk begin performing for colleges around Michigan as Kinetic Affect
- March-May, 2007 - Kinetic Affect tears up the competitive slam scene in the Midwest region
- June, 2007 - Kinetic Affect withdraws from competition in order to focus solely on their new show entitled Word Weavers
- July, 2007 - Kinetic Affect debuts its highly successful show Word Weavers to three sold out crowds
- August-December, 2007 - After the success of their debut show, Kinetic Affect works as creative consultants for the WK Kellogg Foundation, United Way, and several other local organizations
- December, 2007 - Kinetic Affect works on preparing its next Word Weavers show and begins preparing to take the entire Word Weavers show on a national tour
- January-February, 2008 - Word Weavers storms the stage again in an Encore performance, featuring six new poems, to four sold out crowds.
- May, 2008 - Kinetic Affect sponsors and hosts a successful student-driven spoken word poetry fundraiser called Slamapalooza at Portage Northern High School.
- August, 2008 - Kinetic Affect announces its partnership with the new Farmers Alley Theatre in Kalamazoo and begins work on a new show, "speak it forward"
- September, 2008 - Kinetic Affect is named Kalamazoo's Most Talented Performers and prepares for a trip to Las Vegas
- November, 2008 - Kinetic Affect Begins collaboration with Improv Comedy and Crawlspace Eviction
- June, 2009 - Kirk Latimer and Gabriel Giron establish a non-profit organization called Speak It Forward Inc.
- September, 2009 - Kirk Latimer is accepted into The Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Kalamazoo Class of 2010
- March-April, 2009 - Kinetic Affect succeeds at Chicago auditions and Flies out to California for a taping on the show America’s Got Talent
- June, 2009 - Release their third album entitled One Day to Live
- August, 2009 - Kinetic Affect runs Speak It Back, a workshop serving 20 needing youth for free
- September, 2009 - Kinetic Affect takes a week to help kick off a new “self awareness” campaign in Michigan called RAMP (Realizing All My Potential)
- October, 2009 - Kinetic Affect appears on the Apollo stage in New York
- October, 2009 - Kinetic Affect beats Matt Giraud for Reader’s Choice Award for Best Local Performer in Kalamazoo area
- December, 2009 - Kirk begins a artist collaborative group with Ken Morgan in Southwest Michigan
- January, 2010 - Kinetic Affect partners with Crawlspace Eviction and Fancy Pants Theater to open a new performance space in Kalamazoo, Studio 246
- January, 2010 - Get Affected, Kinetic Affect’s new monthly series at 246, launches
